Community blog GetOutLB will be hosting a fundraiser at the Silver Fox in order to alleviate the medical costs of assault victim Stacey Butler.
Butler was attacked early on September 2 in an altercation involving four marines. The story ended up gaining national attention and the case has now been forwarded to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Hate Crimes Division for further investigation. The Marine Corp is conducting their own private investigation following the four marines returning to their posts.
The event, to be held this Saturday, September 15, from 5PM to 9PM, with proceeds benefit Butler’s medical costs.
Kevin Htain, a sponsor of the event with his Identity Home Staging LLC, stated he “will not tolerate fear in our Long Beach community. We recognize this is becoming a greater issue and that the gay community isn’t only affected by this type of fear. In the immediate, we are here to help the Victim of this unwanted crime. For the long term, we pledge to help keep our community cleaner and safer.”
Identity Home Staging has donated a certificate for a cruise for two, one of the prizes to be offered at the event.
