In the name of drag, you are being asked to summon your best The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert costume and pre-Pride it out at the Art Theatre with a sing-along to the famously gay film that has become a cult classic.

Organized by the Long Beach arm of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and The LGBTQ Center—not to mention, as always, the involvement of Jewels—the film will be screened the Wednesday before Pride weekend

MPW-37516“When thinking of the perfect way to launch Pride Week, we could not think of anything better that a big gay screening of the camp classic Priscilla,” said Torey Carrick, a member of the Board of Governors for the HRC. “Imagine a theatre full of kings and queens and everything in between, in costume, the fabulous Jewels as the ring leader, and all of us loudly singing community classics.”

The Long Beach arm of the HRC has always had a pre-Pride launch off to send queers and allies alike into the famous (or infamous, depending upon your experience) weekend that is Long Beach Pride, but this is the first time they’ve opted to take over the Art Theatre in the name of performance.

“Honestly: who doesn’t love Abba?” Carrick said. “That experience sounded heavenly to us and we expect that others will enjoy it too.”

Priscilla will be screened at the Art Theatre on Wednesday, May 14 at 7PM. Tickets are $12 for general admission or $10 if you happen to be ballsy enough to dress up. Tickets can be found here.
