ProjectNunway01

Pairing with the Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the Orange County Shanti, the Long Beach AIDS Foundation will be hosting a collaborative fundraiser aimed at showcasing the talents of what they hope are outrageous designers and design students.

ProjectNunway 02Playing with the Sisters’ visually dazzling take on clergy wear, Project Nunway LA will ask local artists and designers to create high-concept, clergy-inspired pieces that are encouraged to inspire radicalness, politics, topicality. The event itself—mirroring Project Nunways previously hosted event in San Francisco—will showcase these designs in a strut down a runway at Long Beach’s MADHaus with deliciously vicious (but of course loving) judges overseeing.

Designers are not only encouraged to be specifically subversive—but thrifty as well.

“Project Nunway LA challenges participants to create fashion that embodies outrageous queer energy, celebrating nuns, basking in beauty while dancing on the fringes,” said Ms. Destiny LeFemme, Postulant from the Los Angeles Sisters. “Designers are encouraged to create outfits that are made with little to no cash while stretching the creative mind beyond the fringes.”

The Top Designer will win the opportunity to donate $500 to the charity of his/her choosing. The Top Student designer will win a scholarship of $500, payable to his/her art/fashion school of attendance.

Those interested in submitting designs, organizers ask that you send your proposal to [email protected] or visit www.projectnunwayla.com.

Project Nunway LA will occur on October 12 at MADHaus, located at 624 Pacific Avenue.
