For the first time ever, the Long Beach Steering Committee of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) will host a rummage sale aimed at giving one discounted goods while simultaneously raising funds to increase awareness regarding LGBT issues.

Though the organization has never done it before, the rummage sale is Long Beach-y in and of itself—one but has to visit La Bamba’s pile sale every third weekend of the month to know that Long Beach prides itself on locals exchanging with locals. And the organizers of the HRC rummage sale think it will be largely successful.

“While never done before, we fully expect this to be a huge fundraising success for HRC,” said Torey Carrick. “We need all of the kings of queens and queens of kings of Long Beach to clear out their closets to help us pack the rummage sale with tons of goodies ’cause the passionate rummage sale following is eager to buy these goodies.”

Carrick and friends are asking the community to support the cause in one or both of two ways: donate goodies or buy said goodies. And by goodies, they mean practically anything: men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes; books; toys; household items… A theatre costume designer is even donating costumes for a Halloween section so the spectrum of what to bring is both broad and creative. The only exemption is that the organizers ask that you do not bring furniture or large items; the easier to carry, the better.

If you plan on donating, you are asked to bring your items to The Center, located at 2017 E. 4th Street on Retro Row. The Community Rummage Sale for Equality will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 241 Cedar Avenue from 8AM to 4PM.
