A 1.5 mile stretch was all it took for men and women to show their holiday spirit and philanthropic support last Sunday in downtown Long Beach. About 50 people participated in the Santa Fun Run sponsored by GED Magazine.
Runners and attendees began the day with lively music and libations at Paradise Bar, where they registered and commenced at the start line. Donations of nonperishable foods and $20 to $50 were made as part of the event by all who registered.
Participants zipped through the streets in antlers, speedos and Santa hats as they made their way toward the finish line at Hamburger Mary’s on Pine Avenue.
The third annual run, benefiting The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach and the AIDS Food Store of Long Beach, raised funds toward youth and mentorship services and increased food donations.
For those who were unable to participate, they will get a second chance at donning their most festive holiday gear, if they’re willing to leave Long Beach city limits. GED Magazine will be holding a second Santa Fun Run on Dec. 13 in Palm Springs.
