Following the leak of an audio file in which Compton School Board Member Skyy Fisher called murdered teen Trayvon Martin a “black dude faggot,” Fisher faces recall from local NAACP organizers.
After wearing a hoodie to a previous Board meeting to give off the mistaken belief that he was behind the Martin movement in which youths wore hoodies to commemorate the tragic murder in Florida, Fisher appeared on a podcast radio show this past March to go on a profane rant.
He derided everyone from his superintendent (“I told that bitch I was going to get her [after not giving me a district car]”) to ridiculing a father whose daughter was allegedly raped to calling his wearing of a hoodie “the perfect publicity stunt. I’m going to wear a hoodie, the news is going to come out and I’m going to announce my candidacy for City Council, goddammit.”
On May 8, community organizers headed by the NAACP, L.A. Black Gay Pride president, CTA/CEA Union and CUSD employees, students and community members, held a ralley outside the Board of Trustees building at the Compton Unified School District Offices.
Following this, he took a 60-day leave of absence; however, his absence should be extended—permanently—according to the local chapter of the NAACP. Paulette Simpson Gimpson, president of the Compton NAACP, said in a release that the 28-year-old Board member is a “disgrace to the city” and lacks being a “role model for our children.”
The chapter will partake in organizing a stand outside the district’s headquarters at 5PM today to promote the gathering of 10,000 signatures to support to the recall of Fisher; all the signatures must be gathered by October 7.
The Compton Unified School District headquarters are located at 501 S. Santa Fe Avenue.
Neither Fisher nor the district could be reached for comment.
