A middle-aged man was saved by a lifeguard in Belmont Shore Thursday morning after he was found without a pulse at the beach, authorities said.
The lifeguard working a tower adjacent to the Belmont Pier was scanning the area when he noticed a black man in his 40s in workout clothing sitting on the sand under the pier, and slumped over, at about 10:22AM, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Brian Fisk said.
He was not too close to the water, Fisk added.
Upon arrival, the lifeguard found the man without a pulse and not breathing. He then radioed for help and began CPR.
A lifeguard truck arrived at 10:26AM with an AED (automated external defibrillator).
Lifeguards subsequently initiated three shocks with the AED and ultimately got a good pulse and blood pressure, according to Fisk.
Paramedics transported the man to an area hospital shortly thereafter.
His status is not known at this time but Fisk said it “seemingly looked good.”
