6:02am | More than 100 students are expected to march through the streets of Long Beach Saturday afternoon to protest the state of California’s budget cuts, which have left the Long Beach Unified School District scrambling to remain afloat.
The students will gather at Wilson High School and will march to Long Beach City Hall in a show of solidarity against the state’s most recent funding slashes to public education.
The event is being organized by two Millikan High School students, Raynesha Jones and Sarah Kannal. The pair said they were inspired to organize an event that was created by students for students.
Their goal is to raise awareness within the communty regarding how the budget cuts are immediately impacting their education. Jones and Kannal are accomplishing this by providing a platform for students to share their perspectives.
The students plan to depart Wilson High at 12:30 p.m. Upon their arrival at City Hall, they will stage a rally, which is expected to run from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The community is invited to attend and show their support.
