2:45pm | Long Beach City College (LBCC) today took the wraps off of an $8.8 million Industrial Technology Center to house programs for welding and other trades. Located on the Pacific Coast Campus, the building provides LBCC with a new level of equipment and technology for students.

“The new Industrial Technology Center will provide our students with state of the art classrooms and technology,” said Dean of Trades Dr. Greg Shultz.  “Our faculty and students will now have access to the latest equipment to teach and learn welding and other the other trades.”

Funds for the building came from the Measure E local bond approved by voters in 2002. The Industrial Technology Center is just the latest of several new buildings unveiled on the campus over the past two years, in an effort to bring the campus to the cutting edge of technology.

“I want to thank the members of the Board of Trustees and Long Beach City College for building this facility and for all you do to train people for careers,” said Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster.  He continued, “I got my start in the trades and know how important this sort of training is.  The City of Long Beach is working to make sure we provide places where you can use the skills you’re leaning here.”

Upgrades to the main LBCC academic and administrative building will begin this summer.
