Multiple community groups, including the Downtown Long Beach Lions Club and the Puente Latino Association, will be hosting a free food giveaway in North Long Beach Saturday morning.

The giveaway is first-come-first-serve and kicks off at 8 a.m. outside the Ricardo Nursery located at 6850 Atlantic Ave.

Food will be given to the first 200 people who show up. Volunteers from the Washington Neighborhood Association will hand out boxed meals and fresh produce, and the event organizers are asking people to bring their own bags. Masks will also be handed out to members of the community.

Kirk Davis, member of the Lions Club, said the Long Beach Community Foundation granted his community group a COVID-19 relief grant and was awarded food and money.

Members of the organizations said the giveaways are conducted biweekly. Information for the event can be found on the Puente Facebook page.
