The Long Beach City Council recently voted to extend its COVID-19 parking relief program for residents with existing permits in parking-impacted neighborhoods.

Most businesses remain closed in Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, as it currently sits in the restrictive purple-colored tier, which is part of the state’s rubric used to determine what counties can continue to open more non-essential businesses.

Courtesy parking time at on-street parking meters is also getting extended, according to a press release from the Public Works Department.

All on-street parking meters allow for 15 minutes of free parking to accommodate curbside pick-up from local restaurants and businesses, according to the Public Works Department.

To claim the free 15 minutes of parking, residents can press the green button on the parking meter.

This temporary permit program was created in March to mitigate parking impacts caused by COVID-19 as people were ordered to stay and work from home.
