10:15am | Having launched its inaugural year of an adopt-a-school program this summer, LBS Financial Credit Union is currently collecting school supplies for two local schools in the greater Long Beach area.

The two recipient schools are Long Beach Unified’s Stephens Middle School and the Child Development Center, which is part of the ABC Unified School District, according to information provided by the credit union.

The credit union will be working directly with the school districts to select a different school each summer. Both of this year’s schools have provided the credit union with their respective wish lists for the upcoming school year, said Heather Summers, an LBS Financial spokeswoman.

The school supplies drive is being marketed at each of the credit union’s branch offices, on its webpage and on marketing materials to encourage its members and employees to donate. The financial institution is also urging the community to participate by making donations, as well.

Prior to the start of the school year, all of the donated supplies will be delivered to each school site.

“With the continuing budget crisis and less support for the schools, teachers and families of students are often charged with purchasing their own school supplies,” reads an informational release issued by the credit union.”

Wish lists of the requested supplies can be obtained on LBS Financial’s website at LBSFCU.org and at each of their locations in Long Beach, Cerritos and Lakewood. Donations can be dropped off directly at any LBS Financial branch location through Aug. 26.
