3:17pm | The 5th annual Electronic Waste Drive will be hosted by Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal next Saturday, January 8 at the corner parking lot of Broadway and Long Beach Boulevard downtown, in an effort to have residents and businesses dispose of their e-waste safely and properly.
E-waste includes devices like computer monitors, televisions and plasma screens, DVD players, cell phones and other electronics. These devices can be hazardous if simply thrown away, so Lowenthal – along with Goodwill of Southern California, the Interval House Crisis Center and others – will sponsor the drive to recycle their goods in a fast and convenient way. The service is free and receipts will be provided for tax purposes.
Cell phones will be donated to the Interval House to help battered spouses and children transition out of abusive homes.
Hazardous waste like paint, light bulbs and batteries will not be accepted at the drive. Those can all be disposed of at Gaffey Street Collection Center at 1400 N. Gaffey Drive in San Pedro. The event will also demonstrate how to destroy confidential documents. Visit longbeach-recycles.org for more information.
