9:45am | The Long Beach Educational Foundation, started in 1989, has announced the Shaun Lumachi Leadership Award, a new scholarship that will be granted to a graduating high school senior who has been admitted into any California State University.
The foundation, of which Shaun was not only a huge supporter but actively involved, began as a handful of volunteers and is now the single largest donor to the Long Beach Unified School District, directing various donations to students and public schools here in Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and Avalon. The efforts of the Foundation provide everything from uniforms to needy students to honoring students who have triumphed over tough challenges such as life-threatening illnesses or severe disabilities.
