The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) promoted four of its members during a ceremony Friday morning, officials announced.

“The Long Beach Fire Department is proud to have promoted such a strong and capable group of new leaders within our organization,” the department stated in a press release. “We look forward to their continued contributions to our Department and our City.”

Mick Hannon—who has served as a firefighter, paramedic and hazardous materials specialist since joining the department in 2001—was promoted to fire captain.

Hannon has served on several committees and associations, including the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team, Firefighters for Christ and the California State Firefighters Association, according to the release. 

LBFD veteran of 19 years Omar Naranjo rose to the position of marine safety captain.

Naranjo began his career as an ocean lifeguard in 1996, and continued as marine safety sergeant, lifeguard academy training officer and dive officer, the release stated. 

Naranjo attended Cerritos College and serves as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association.

Officials promoted Tess Parkhouse to a marine safety officer, having served as a seasonal Long Beach lifeguard since 2007.

She has also worked as a member of the Big Bear Mountain Resorts Ski Patrol since 2014 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley, as well as a master’s degree in Global Medicine from USC.

Danielle Caldwell was also promoted to marine safety officer after having served as a seasonal Long Beach lifeguard and working as an emergency medical technician teacher and skills instructor.

Caldwell has a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and holds a teaching credential in multiple subjects.
