Safe Kids Los Angeles and Miller Children’s Hospital teamed up to teach kids in the Long Beach community the importance of pedestrian safety. As part of International Walk to School Day, more than 1,000 children from Roosevelt Elementary participated, trekking across the streets of
Long Beach.
Pedestrian safety tips are more important than ever. Pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths among children ages 5 to 14. In Long Beach, Miller Children’s Hospital sees more auto-pedestrian emergency incidents than any other pediatric emergency visit.
Volunteers from FedEx, Long Beach Police Department, Miller Children’s Hospital and Roosevelt Elementary helped lead different safety stations including a safety obstacle course, an exercise warm up and a Long Beach Police car, named Herbie, who “spoke” to the kids about crossing the street.
