A city maintenance crewmember collecting storm debris with a front wheel loader on the beach hit an individual lying on the sand near the Junipero Beach Parking Lot today, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) and a release from the City of Long Beach.

The city stated that the incident occurred on the 2100 block of Ocean Boulevard at around 10:00AM this morning. Police officials received the corresponding dispatch call at 10:15AM.

According to the LBPD, the man struck by the vehicle was transported to a local hospital by the Long Beach fire officials dispatched to the scene and is in stable condition.

The city and the LBPD both stated the investigation of the matter is ongoing, and Collision Investigators responded to the scene. The city has opened its own investigation on the matter.
