A 22-year-old Long Beach man has been arrested on suspicion of gunning down two men along Anaheim Street in early August, police said Wednesday.

Long Beach police said detectives have gathered “significant evidence” linking Efren Abril to the Aug. 5 killing of 29-year-old Antonio Parra and 28-year-old Brian Gomez, who were found with gunshot wounds in a parking lot near St. Mary Medical Center.

“Detectives are still investigating the motive for the shooting and do not believe the victims were known to the suspect,” police said in a statement.

An arrest warrant was issued for Abril Wednesday after detectives presented their case to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, police said.

Abril has been charged with four counts, including the two murders and separate charges for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and live ammunition, according to the department’s release.

Abril is currently in custody in Orange County on an unrelated charge, police said, but will be transferred to Long Beach City Jail once he’s released.

Abril is expected to be booked on the charges filed with the LA district attorney and have his bail set at $4.05 million, according to police.
