10:33am | A Long Beach man traveling in Florida on business died last Thursday after he apparently fell from an interior balcony overlooking a 10-story atrium in the resort hotel in which he was staying, according to the St. John’s County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office.
The man, whose body hit a first-floor fountain at about 6:30 a.m. March 10 at the Renaissance Resort Hotel in World Golf Village, Fla., was identified as 36-year-old Wayne Packard of Long Beach. He had been staying at the hotel since last Monday.
Packard was employed by St. Augustine, Fla.,-based Carlisle Interconnect Technologies, which has offices in Long Beach. He had been with the company for 10 years.
Packard was not married and was alone on the trip.
Kevin Kelshaw, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, told the Florida Times-Union that it was either accidental or a suicide. He said there was no evidence of foul play and that detectives are still investigating.
