3:00pm | A 42-year old man died of unknown causes early Monday morning, shortly after being released from police custody and the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident as an in-custody death.

Paramedics were attempting to treat the man, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol according to authorities, when officers arrived to the 900 block of Washington Place around 3:40am to assist Fire Department paramedics. The man was sweating profusely and was combative, so officers used handcuffs in order for paramedics to treat him. The man was transported to a local hospital and released to their care, but died a short time later.

Homicide Detectives are investigated the death while the District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of their own. Both are waiting on the L.A. County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of death, which will also find whether or not the man was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
