9:00am | A 23-year old Long Beach man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on Monday after being convicted of the murder of his girlfriend’s 13-month old son.

Anthony Jerome Hall Jr. admitted to authorities on tape that he killed Nathan Coleman in Los Angeles on September 19, 2008 and left the toddler’s body in a Long Beach dumpster. Having already confessed to the crime, Hall took the stand during his trial and claimed that his girlfriend, Coleman’s mother, killed her child.

On February 9, Hall was convicted on two counts of second-degree murder and assault on a child causing death. Deputy District Attorney Bob Hight and Judge Gary Ferrari imposed the sentence on Hall yesterday morning.

The child suffered 11 broken ribs and a severe skull fracture that caused his death, according to prosecutors. Hall put the child in a trash bag and took public transportation from Los Angeles to Long Beach, discarding the body in a dumpster.

Hall would later scratch and cut his own arms and shirt, telling police and his girlfriend that the child had been kidnapped. He then admitted the crime to police before changing his story while on the stand during his own trial.
