Light bars on an ambulance.

A Long Beach man died in a two-vehicle crash in Pomona that left another person in critical condition, authorities said today.

Angel Cortes was 26 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

California Highway Patrol officers responded at 1:51 a.m. to the Garey Avenue off ramp of the westbound 60 Freeway where they found the drivers of both vehicles trapped.

Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters freed both victims from the wreckage.

The victim now identified as Cortes was pronounced dead at the scene, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball told City News Service.

The second driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

A SigAlert was issued for the closure of all lanes of the westbound freeway for several hours while the CHP investigated the collision.
