A memorial honoring servicemen and women killed in post-Sept. 11 military operations in Rosie the Riveter Park is set to be dedicated on Memorial Day, assisted with funding from the community.

Construction on the Honoring Our Fallen Memorial Wall began last may, at the entrance to the park (Clark Avenue and Conan Street). Names of these modern soldiers—6,900 U.S. Armed Forces members who have died in Operations Enduring Freedom, Freedom’s Sentinel, Inherent Resolve, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn and related combat deployments—will be inscribed on the wall.

A few weeks ago, the organization spearheading its creation reached out to the community for additional funding. As of May 16, the organization had raised $10,000 of the $18,000 it was seeking to cover construction costs.

“We are reaching out to our community to assist us with funds to complete this wall,” said Laura Herzog, founder of Cypress-based Honoring Our Fallen. “There will be ongoing costs to maintain the wall, so an account (we’ve established) will pay off the initial costs and then be used to maintain the wall and be able to, unfortunately, add names as needed.”
