One of the largest, citywide criminal record expungement workshops will be held for free in Long Beach Thursday evening thanks to a partnership in part between the Long Beach Ministers Alliance and the city prosecutor’s office.
Organizers said the workshop will be different than others, because at the workshop one can take “immediate action,” rather than simply talk to attendees about what needs to be done. They hope to help formulate the next steps in the process, assist with other areas of support, connect qualified candidates with career opportunities and remove the qualified negative actions.
“We have to create a mechanism that will allow people to have a second chance at productive living,” Gray stated. “There are hundreds of new job opportunities coming to our city and want qualified people who have had made mistakes in the past to be eligible for those opportunities.”
LBMA representative and former prosecutor Art Gray indicated the event would be a warrant-friendly environment where “no one has to worry about being arrested, encountering bounty hunters or being harassed.”
Gray said they will also be providing a few scholarships for people who cannot afford the filing fee.
The event will take place at 6:00PM at Temple Baptist Church, 2825 East 10th Street. For more information call 562.434.3217.
