Two men are listed in critical condition today, after a shooting in the 1600 block of West 19th Street wounded one man in the upper torso, and witnesses pointed officers to the fleeing suspect. Officers shot the man near 19th Street and Caspian Avenue when he produced a handgun. The incident occurred around 10:45pm on Sunday night.

The suspect was wounded in the torso and was transported to a local hospital; he remains in critical condition. A press release from the LBPD says that an ensuing investigation will determine if the suspect in the officer-involved shooting is responsible for shooting the male victim.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent investigation of the incident, which is routine for all “hit” officer shootings in Los Angeles County.

The incident is the thirteenth officer-involved shooting involving the Long Beach Police Department since January, 2009. Two of those were “No hit” shootings.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives David Rios and Daniel Mendoza at (562) 570-7244.
