12:08pm | The Long Beach Police Department will be conducting a Driving Under the Influence – Driver License Checkpoint on Saturday, September 3, 2011, from 6:00pm, until 2:00am on Sunday, September 4, 2011. This checkpoint will be held in the western section of the city. No exact address was provided.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the purpose of the DUI – Driver License Checkpoint is an attempt to reduce the number of alcohol-related casualties, as well as to ensure drivers have a valid driver license. By publicizing these enforcement and educational efforts, the Long Beach Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from driving while impaired.
Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are found to be under the influence will be arrested. The LBPD also encourages the public to help keep roadways safe by calling 9-1-1 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. For more information, please contact the Long Beach Police Department’s Traffic Section Sergeant, Aaron Alu at (562) 570-5737.
