10:59am | The Long Beach Police Department will be conducting a checkpoint to screen for impaired and unlicensed drivers this Saturday, August 13, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, in North Long Beach.
In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved collisions, driving-under-the-influence (DUI) checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as to educate the public on the dangers of driving while impaired.
By publicizing these enforcement and educational efforts, the Long Beach Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from driving while impaired.
Depending on the traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 9-1-1 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
