If there is a cohesive belief that runs through all those that contribute to the Long Beach Post, it is the mere fact that in order to build a distinct, dynamic community, we must recognize those who contribute to its betterment. The power of recognition cannot be relegated to the given and apparent, but must dig deeper in order to find the voices that are not only continuously recognized, but those perhaps not quite heard, the faces who are perhaps not much seen, and the hands that are perhaps not quite shaken enough. Given this sentiment, we are proud to announce our inaugural series of events, Long Beach Post Presents — and we are asking you, our readers, to help us find those in Long Beach that are making a difference

Throughout the year, we will present four distinct celebrations in collaboration with Choura Events that will honor and shed light on the rebels-with-a-cause who you feel are shifting Long Beach into a new tomorrow and generating the next generation.

Our inaugural event will be the 40 Under 40 celebration, a lineup of Long Beachers under the age of 40 chosen by readers as people with the courage to dream and create a better community. Whether it is altering the definition of who and what Long Beach stands for or shaping our city towards a positive future hands-on, this event will bring recognition to those who have not had the chance to be recognized for such contributions. The nomination period begins today, March 6th, and ends on April 18th. Following this nomination period, a panel of judges will narrow down the nominations into select winners. The ceremony will take place on April 26th at The Grand here in Long Beach.

The following three events will occur throughout the rest of the year. Summer will inaugurate our Hot 25, a set of businesses that readers feel define and defy the convention of innovation; honorees will be celebrated on July 26th. On September 26th, 30XX will honor 30 women who are not only positive contributors to the Long Beach community but also characterize and exemplify their own version of womanhood will be recognized. And lastly, on November 8th, will be our GIVE:LB ceremony, where the best of Long Beach’s charities, non-profits, and philanthropists will be distinguished. More details on each event are forthcoming.

It bears repeating that the power of recognition is what drives a better a better community. It is in this sense that we humbly ask for your participation in sharing that power by nominating those who make our community outstanding.
