Long Beach rappers, including Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillenger, on Monday night began posting on social media about the death of Bad Azz, who was part of the Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta Crips.

Bad Azz, otherwise known as Jamarr Stamps, died while in custody of the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, they confirmed Tuesday. The department said it does not suspect foul play.

In a statement, spokeswoman Deputy Robyn Flores said correctional staff performing a security check at 5 a.m. Monday found Stamps alone in his cell in need of medical attention.

“Deputies immediately summoned medical staff and life-saving measures were performed on Stamps,” Flores said. Paramedics arrived shortly after and continued the measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner will determine the cause of death.

“There are no signs of foul play surrounding Stamps’ death and the investigation remains ongoing,” Flores said.

The 43-year-old was arrested in Wildomar on Friday on suspicion of domestic violence, according to jail records. Stamps was on probation for a 2017 domestic violence charge, to which he pleaded guilty. A judge sentenced him to three years of probation, according to court records.

Born in Hawaiian Gardens and raised in Long Beach, Bad Azz was a core member of Snoop and Nate Dogg’s early G-funk crew. He has also worked with big names like Tupac and Warren G.

Recording artist Jerry Long, also known as Kokane, posted his condolences on Facebook, “Gone to soon … rest well lil bro , u will be missed RIP BAD AZZ.”

Snoop Dogg posted on Instagram Monday night, “Damn. R. I. P. To my young. D. P. G. L. L. G. L. B. C. Crew original @badazzlbc gone 2 soon.”

The Sheriff’s department asks anyone with information about this incident to contact Investigator Justin Rinkert at 951-922-7300.
