A pedestrian has died of injuries sustained in a hit-and-run traffic collision in West Long Beach earlier this month, police said today.

James Simmons, a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach, was on Anaheim Street near the Los Angeles River at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 2 when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling at an unknown speed, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene, according to police.

Simmons sustained multiple severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department, according to police. On Feb. 22, Simmons succumbed to his injuries, according to the LBPD.
