Mayor Garcia will be in Washington, D.C. Tuesday and Wednesday to attend the official visit of Pope Francis at the White House, his office announced Tuesday. Garcia will join President Obama on the South Lawn for Francis’ arrival, at Obama’s invitation.

He will also attend a meeting at the White House between a group of mayors and the White House Executive Staff, according to a release.

“I’m incredibly honored to join the President and First Lady as they welcome Pope Francis to the White House and the United States,” said Mayor Garcia in a statement. “Long Beach welcomes his leadership in addressing worldwide challenges to climate change, immigration, and poverty.”
