Starting Sept. 7, Long Beach State sports fans will no longer be able to bring in purses, backpacks, briefcases and even fanny packs to athletic venues on campus.

Only bags that are clear and do not exceed 12-by-6 inches, one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags, and small clutch bags no bigger than 4.5-by-6.5 inches can be taken inside sports venues. The only exception is for medically necessary items after inspection.

Long Beach State Athletics is implementing the new clear bag policy “to provide a safer environment for the public and expedite fan entry into LBSU athletic venues,” according to a release.

The policy is considered industry standard: the NFL and many NCAA institutions also have clear bag policies, officials said.

The policy applies to anyone entering the sports venues, including season ticket holders, boosters, donors, recruits and scouts. The only exception is for credentialed media or staff.

  • Purses larger than a clutch bag
  • Coolers
  • Backpacks
  • Cinch bags
  • Briefcases
  • Fanny packs
  • Seat cushions w/ pockets/ zippers
  • Computer bags
  • Camera bags
  • Any bag larger than the permissible size
