The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will be hosting an open house and job fair next week for folks looking to get a job this summer.

The open house and job fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the Doris Topsy-Elvord Community Center at Houghton Park, located at 6301 Myrtle Ave.

The event will include information on current parks programs and services, a preview of this year’s summer programming, and a job fair for those seeking summer employment.

The department is seeking day camp recreation program leaders to assist with a wide range of programming at the parks. Starting pay will begin at $15 per hour.

A full list of opportunities and applications can be found here. Applicants are encouraged to complete an application online prior to the event.

During the event, applicants will be taken through preliminary interviews and get the opportunity to meet hiring supervisors and learn what a day in the life of a Long Beach Recreation Leader is like.

At the event, younger attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a free bike workshop hosted by the Bahati Group Foundation, a nonprofit that provides inner-city youth access to non-competitive and competitive cycling with resources and support. Those interested in participating must pre-register and bring their own bicycle and helmet.
