10:23am | The Long Beach Unified School District honored the Port of Long Beach with an award last week for the port’s “comprehensive and active education outreach program,” the port announced Friday.

LBUSD Superintendent Christopher J. Steinhauser presented the Distinguished Community Service Award , which was accepted on behalf of the port by Long Beach Harbor Commissioners Dr. Mike Walter and Susan E. Anderson Wise along with the port’s executive director,  Richard D. Steinke.

The port was honored during the Long Beach Education Foundation’s annual Most Inspiring Students Awards dinner on Thursday, May 26.

The port’s education outreach efforts  include, among others, scholarships for students, classroom curriculum for teachers, field trips, internships and service-learning events, according to information provided by the port.
