Domestic violence will be brought to the forefront today at Cal State Long Beach’s Southwest Terrace in the Student Union from 10am – 4pm.  Project Safe is organizing the event along with participants the Long Beach Police Department and local Long Beach Domestic Violence programs.

October is National Domesic Violence Awareness Month, and Long Beach’s own domestic violence program – Interval House and the CSULB Women’s Resource Center – are leading efforts for the community to join together to help spread the message that domestic violence is unacceptable.

This year’s event will be the largest city-wide domestic violence awareness month event to be held at Cal State Long Beach.  In light of recent violent campus attacks against women on Long Beach college campuses, the event is important in increasing awareness and producing solutions.

California State Assemblymember Betty Karnette and Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster will be special guests, and the event will also feature stories of hope from local surviviors, live entertainment and refreshments.
