After hundreds of reports in July alone—many coming through its current Water Waster app—the Long Beach Water Department has updated the mobile app to make it easier for residents to report water wasters throughout the city.

The free app has always permitted citizens to report occurrences of water waste throughout Long Beach since its release in 2010. However, with the update, reports are easier and hold more accountability, with users being able to report the specific date, time, address, type of waste, and more important, up to four photos depicting the waste.

“We rely very heavily on Long Beach residents to act as our eyes and ears, when it comes to identifying water being wasted in the community,” said Kevin Wattier, General Manager of LBWD, in a statement. “This app provides us with an additional resource for reporting waste.”

According to LBWD, before peaking at almost 600 reports in July, the Department had been receiving somewhere between 300 and 400 reports of water wasters since the City’s imminent water shortage warning was issued earlier this year.

In addition to the mobile app, residents can report water waste by calling the Water Department’s Water Waster hotline at 562-570-2455 or by submitting an online report here.
