4:35pm | Long Beach resident and freelance journalist Kate Karp competed this past weekend in the final round of the American Association for Retired Persons’ National Spelling Bee held in Cheyenne, Wyo., June 18.
Karp was among 40 spellers ages 50 and over from across America to make it to the 39th round of the bee, where she tied with two other contestants to come in at 12th place.
Karp is part of the two-woman team that writes the popular Pet Post for the Long Beach Post, the latest installment of which was posted today.
