Long Beach firefighters quickly extinguished a kitchen fire at Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que in the Long Beach Towne Center early Wednesday morning, officials said.

The incident was initially reported at about 2:20 a.m. as smoke and fire in the kitchen area, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jack Crabtree. He didn’t immediately have details on where in the kitchen the fire happened.

No one was injured, but firefighters remained on scene for two hours for intensive overhaul because it can take a long time to find and ensure all hot spots are cooled. In a restaurant kitchen, many empty spaces, like the exhaust system, must be searched, he said.

The department is still investigating the cause of the fire, Crabtree said.

Lucille’s is closed for the day because of the fire, according to a staff member.
