UPDATE 12:45pm | The suspicious package was a battery device and poses no threat, according to Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Nancy Pratt.
11:45am | Authorities have evacuated the Main Library and surrounding areas of downtown Long Beach after locating a ‘suspicious package’ near the building in the Civic Center, which is also home to City Hall.
Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Dina Zipalski said that the bomb squad has been called in and more information will be available later.
As a precaution, Pacific Avenue has been closed from Broadway to Ocean Boulevard. We will post more as we learn it.
