The Long Beach Main Library brings a taste of Spanish culture to the city with the classical and flamenco music and dance program, “Ecos de España.”
The library will host the hour-long event on Saturday, December 17 at noon. The free event is open to people of all ages and will include audience participation activities for children, along with an introductory castanet lesson offered at the end of the program.
Award winning guitarist Almer Imamovic will perform a selection of compositions created for Spanish guitars, such as “Asturias” by Isaac Albeniz. Susana Elena will perform varied flamenco collections ranging from a Gypsy rhythm called “Siguiriya” to a Cuban-flavored dance called “Guajira.”
For nine years, Elena has presented “Ecos de España” at over 60 libraries and schools throughout Southern California.
Ecos de Espana is a school assembly program that introduces Spanish classical and flamenco music and dance to grades K-12. It includes interactive exchanges with students, conforms to VAPA Standards for grades K-12, and promotes international cultural awareness. Arts education is emphasized through live performances, thereby imparting a richness of depth, dimension, and immediacy that is fundamental to the performing arts. This program can be adapted for language department presentations as well as school and community arts and multicultural festivals.
