A pursued driver was shot with stun gun and taken into custody in front of the Long Beach Airport terminal Wednesday night after the possibly intoxicated 44 year-old man led police on a chase through the streets of Long Beach.

According to the Long Beach Police Department’s Sgt. David Marander, the pursuit started just after 9PM in the 700 block of Shoreline Dr. when an officer suspected the driver to be under the influece and attemped to pull him over.

NBC Los Angeles began live-streaming the pursuit at 9:30PM and on the video, the suspect could be seen driving at varying speeds along Redondo and Spring streets in a black 2006 Mitsubishi sedan with its hazards on.

The pursuit lasted for nearly half-an-hour before the suspect pulled the car into the airport loop and stopped near the main terminal. After exibiting erratic behavior such as punching the steering wheel and stopping and starting the car, the suspect exited the vehicle and began rifling through a bag on the hood.

At around 10:10PM, Long Beach Police Department officers stormed the suspect, shot him with a stun gun and took him into custody.

“There might be some mental concerns,” Marander said of the suspect. The man was arrested on suspicion of failure to yield, driving while impaired and “numerous vehicle code violations,” he said.

Traffic to the airport was briefly blocked off while police attempted to take the suspect into custody, however most airport operations were already done for the day when the suspect drove into the loop area. It is unknown if the suspect was armed.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
