Long Beach police were investigating a suspected armed carjacking that took place in West Long Beach early Saturday morning.

Officers were sent to the 2400 block of Hayes Avenue at about 1:25 a.m. regarding a report about a carjacking, police said.

Police found a man who said he was sitting in his parked vehicle in the area of 25th Street and Hayes Avenue when an unknown suspect approached him, according to the LBPD.

The unknown man then brandished a firearm and fired into the ground, demanding the victim’s vehicle, police said. The suspect fled toward Willow Avenue in the victim’s vehicle that was described as a dark-colored sedan, police said.

No injuries were reported, and police located bullet casings at the scene, according to the LBPD.
