A Los Angeles man has been charged with murder, assault and other crimes in connection with the death of his 10-month-old son who was found last week at a North Long Beach motel.

Jeremy Ramon Wade, 23, appeared in court for the first time Monday, but his arraignment was moved to March 7. He has not entered a plea.

The baby boy, Isaiah Gaston, was found at the Scottish Inns motel at about 7 a.m. on Feb. 9 after police responded to a call of a domestic violence incident. The boy was found unresponsive, and was transported to a local hospital where the baby was pronounced dead.

Police said at the time they discovered evidence that Wade had harmed the baby, leading to his arrest. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, the boy died of multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.

Wade is facing one count each of murder, assault on a child causing death, false imprisonment by violence and one misdemeanor count of battery on a spouse of girlfriend, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

On Monday, Wade’s bail amount was also raised to $2,050,000. He remains in custody.

A GoFundMe page was created to cover the costs of the baby’s funeral expenses and it has raised $3,083 of the $5,000 goal as of Monday evening. Jen Smith, the organizer for the GoFundMe page, posted photos of a happy, smiling baby with the caption, “Isaiah always had an infectious smile that would brighten up anyone’s day.”
