Police said they are investigating a shooting Thursday evening in North Long Beach where a man was wounded by an unknown suspect.

Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Allison Gallagher said the victim, a 33-year-old man, was in the area of Muriel Avenue and East Artesia Boulevard when a man approached and shot him, wounding him in the upper body.

Both the victim and the suspect fled the scene, Gallagher said. The victim, who ran toward Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue, collapsed shortly after, and a bystander called 911, according to the LBPD. Police arrived on the scene at 6:53 p.m. where they said they found the victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries, LBPD said.

Police said they have not identified a motive for the shooting and the suspect is still at large. Gallagher said police did not have any information on the suspect’s identity.
