A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car driving north on the 710 Freeway early Tuesday morning, the LBPD said.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of relatives and was only identified as a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach, according to police.

Officers arrived at the freeway’s 9th Street offramp at about 3:01 a.m. and located the victim in the roadway, police said. Long Beach fire medics determined the man dead at the scene.

The victim was walking northbound along the right shoulder of the northbound 710 Freeway and crossed into lanes of traffic, according to an early police investigation.

A white SUV was traveling northbound in the No. 2 lane and collided with the pedestrian before fleeing the scene, according to a police statement.

Detectives are also investigating if the victim was struck by a second vehicle, police said.
