A man died several days after he was involved in a crash in Downtown Long Beach, but officials are still trying to determine exactly what caused his death, police said today.

The crash happened at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 10 at Sixth Street and Pacific Avenue, according to police.

Police said a Chevy Cruz and a Nissan Maxima collided in the intersection when the Nissan’s driver ran a red light.

The Nissan’s driver was hurt and taken to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Police Department. On Oct. 20, however, police were notified by the hospital that the driver had died on Oct. 13, police said.

“The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, who will also assist in notifying the next of kin,” police said in a statement.

Authorities so far have publicly identified the deceased driver of the Nissan only as a 28-year-old from Gardena. He was the only person in the car, police said.

Police said the driver of the Chevy remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
