A 38-year-old man died Wednesday after a driver hit him with her vehicle while he was crossing the street in the morning, officials said.

Police were first called to the area of Judson Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway at about 8 a.m. There they found the victim, a pedestrian, with serious injuries. Paramedics treated the victim and took him to a local hospital in stable, but critical condition, police said.

The driver, a 36-year-old Long Beach woman, was traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway in a Dodge when she hit the victim, who was in the roadway outside of a crosswalk, police said. She has a valid driver’s license and was not impaired or distracted during the crash, police said, and was released at the scene after cooperating with officers.

Detectives were informed at about 2:30 p.m. that the victim, identified as David Cryster-Weller from Riverside, died at the hospital.
