A man was hospitalized early Sunday morning with a single gunshot wound to his upper body, according to police.

Officers contacted the victim at a local hospital shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, who told them he was inside a parked vehicle at Ocean Boulevard and Cherry Avenue when he heard what sounded like gunfire and saw that he had been struck, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers then investigated the area, but were unable to locate a crime scene in connection with the victim, according to the LBPD.

Police have not yet identified suspects or a motive, and the investigation is ongoing.
