Police say they’re investigating a late-night shooting at a homeless encampment in North Long Beach that left one person wounded.

Officers responded to the shooting at Del Amo Boulevard, where it meets the 710 Freeway, just before midnight on Tuesday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

There, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body, the LBPD said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that he is expected to survive.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, with police saying the man was inside his tent at the encampment when he was struck by the gunfire.

No arrests have been made in the shooting. The suspect or suspects fled the scene before police arrived, according to the LBPD, who said officers at the scene located bullet casings and strike marks from gunfire.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, according to police.
