Police are investigating a shooting Wednesday night in North Long Beach that left a man injured.

Officers were notified of the shooting just before 9 p.m. and responded to the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Authorities arrived at the scene and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment, according to police, who said he is expected to survive.

Police say the victim was in the 2300 block of South Street when a man he knows approached him and revealed a gun.

After a short argument between the two, the suspect shot the victim in the upper body and then fled the scene, according to police.

At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting is unknown, police said.
